Employee Motivational Tips

If you thought the answer to that question was to give them a raise, you’d be wrong.
People like to be appreciated and thanked for a job well done, but the use of money shows little thought.

But let’s back up a minute: how do employees get a job done well? The answer lays with you.

You need to create positions for your employees that have the responsibilities fully established in the first place. When a new employee starts working on the first day, the employee knows that he or she is not required to be responsible for every facet of the running of the business. The employee has been hired to do a specific job.

The only way an employee knows how to perform well is by knowing his or her responsibilities well. Whether this would involve additional training on the part of your business is an expense worth considering for those employees who desire to grow with you.

Therefore, it is equally important to provide avenues for your employees to gain additional knowledge and experience. Many good employees leave their places of employment strictly because they are bored---and, therefore, unhappy.

Keep Your Best Employees by Following these Tips

  1. Make sure the employee knows his or her responsibilities so that he or she knows what is expected.
  2. Investigate onsite or additional training opportunities so that employees have the opportunity to gain more knowledge in their field.
  3. Offer incentives and perks that are non-monetary such as tickets to a show for two, a dinner, or a box of chocolates. The idea is to personally thank your employee for a job well-done with a personal and thoughtful token of appreciation.
  4. Create an environment where employees have the opportunity to be creative and “own” their jobs.

Important Points to Remember to Keep Your Best Employees:

  • Make sure your employees fully know and understand their responsibilities.
  • Offer additional training opportunities for growth.
  • Personalize tokens of appreciation of a job well-done instead of using money.
  • Offer additional incentives for growth.
  • Say “thank you” often.
