Motivating Employees
Hiring from Within Keeps Employees Motivated
Many companies’ success is due, in part, by promoting people into new positions within the established company structure.
Great employees are those who know their jobs and, therefore, do a good job for their employer. For example, a terrific sales person could also make a great sales manager and not only be motivated by the position, but the pay raise that goes with the position as well.
Hiring a current employee for a position in your company also inspires other employees with the incentive to stay with you and your small business or company. Employees are more apt to stay at companies that offer such incentives as promotions versus starting all over at another company.
Hiring and promoting from within also saves the company countless hours of recruiting and training new people in positions. People who are already vested in the company and are likeable will have the incentive to stay knowing that they could be considered for positions with more responsibility and pay increases.
Hiring from Within Your Business Saves Time
It takes money to advertise and time to interview applicants for job positions. Hiring people from within your business saves additional time with review processes such as with 30-60, and 90-day evaluations.
- Employees who are good at in their current positions and are liked by others can help motivate other employees to stay with your company by being an example of the growth potential.
- People who work well together and are happy, stay together. If your business has a crew that works well, why reinvent the wheel? Take advantage of promoting talented people your business currently employs.
- Overall, hiring and promoting from within your small business or company is much easier than hiring people from outside the company.
Important Points to Remember when Hiring from Within your Company:
- Make sure the employee you might be considering promoting would like the position. Just because someone likes and is very good in sales does not mean he or she would be happy in management.
- Invest training dollars wisely. Choose employees who have shown a desire to grow within your business so that your investment in training is well-spent.
- Make it apparent to other employees who show potential that promotions and pay raises are within their grasp.
- Hiring from within shows employees that you are dedicated to them and their happiness as well as being advantageous to your business.
- Hiring from within your business saves countless dollars on training and evaluating new employees.
