A Successful Entrepreneur's Mindset – Don't “Over-Entrepreneur” Yourself
Okay, so you've left your job and have set the tide in motion in starting your own business. You have your vision, your goals, your plan of action, and you have a fair idea of how you are going to compete in the market but…it can be overwhelming to try to be an entrepreneur overnight.
In fact, becoming a successful entrepreneur overnight is not only a stressful thought---it's an impossible task.
In order to stay balanced and focused, here are some important words of advice: you are human, be human, make mistakes along the way, learn from your mistakes, avoid making them in the future; however, the most important thought to keep in mind is don't “over-entrepreneur” yourself.
The Path of Entrepreneurship – Understanding the Stepping Stones
1. Common Sense Leads to Knowledge.
You have heard how someone has an IQ of 180 but can forget to tie his shoes before he steps out the door? You must learn to trust your own common sense in evaluating what you need to learn in order to grow.
No one knows everything there is to know about every aspect of running a business but you can take cues from your common sense to tell you what you need to do and learn in order to be successful.
Be willing to learn and allow yourself to learn at your own pace. Remember: successful entrepreneurs are not made overnight.
2. Knowledge Leads to Personal Growth.
…and personal growth leads to confidence in yourself and your abilities.
Bury yourself knee-deep in books about your industry if you must. Join networking groups and listen to the wise words from others. Attend lectures and enlist the help of a business counselor or advisor. Become a part of a social networking website.
By gaining knowledge you grow as an intelligent person in your field and with that comes the ability to not second-guess decisions that you make and being able to hold your own in a roomful of other successful entrepreneurs.
3. Personal Growth Leads to Being Comfortable in your Own Skin.
In other words, as you grow you will be more confident with your knowledge, skill-set, and feeling of being able to compete in a roomful of “smart” competitors. The difference between you and them is your desire, your passion, your knowledge and know-how in getting around obstacles that crop up in your business.
Getting advice from other businesspeople is fine but, at some point in time, you need to realize that you are a businessperson others may seek from and that you can compete in the business world with the best of them.
Important Points to Remember in Becoming a Successful Entrepreneur
Don't be an “entrepreneur.” Think of yourself as a self-starter who is learning the path to developing a successful business. Be passionate in seeking out knowledge in your industry and from other business owners.
Grow at your own pace. Let common sense dictate what and when you need to gain more knowledge.
Strive to have confidence in your knowledge and abilities so that you are comfortable in your own skin in any business situation.
