Getting Traffic with a Great Press Release

A Press Release Done Right Brings People to Your Web Site

You hear it a lot - the power of the press. The press, or the media, is a very powerful medium, and they are influenced much of the time by press releases. Getting the media interested in you sometimes can seem like a daunting task but a simple, one page paper known as a press release can do it for you.

A press release is a news release that gives the media more information about where they can find a story to cover. Press releases go out to all the major newspapers, news stations, internet news, etc. They are a business owner's best bet to getting more popularity in their hometown or on the internet.

A press release that sounds like a news story and offers a consumer benefit can go quite a ways in the media but it must be written right to be effective.

Here's a brief guide on how to put together a media grabbing press release that gets you the attention you need:

  • Make sure you have a very compelling headline. The headline is the first thing a journalist is going to read when they browse your press release. They will literally throw it in the trashcan if you don't compel them to read more. Come up with something catchy but not fake.
  • Make the press release newsworthy. The point of a press release is to inform a journalist about a story. A real story has newsworthy. The press release can't just be a promotion of your business. The press release has to be about something. If you are having a grand opening, perfect, huge sale, not so perfect.
  • Make sure it is key word specific. A press releases, especially one that is distributed online (click here for a few online press release distributors) must be key word specific. If you optimize for one certain key word it will have more pull with the search engines. Determine what word or phrase fits best and put it in at 2-3%.
  • Have some call to action and benefit. A press release is news, yes, but it must also have some sort of call to action and benefit for the reader that does in fact act. Have a free give- a- way, a raffle or something else that will invite people to act.
  • Link to your web site. Whether this press release is distributed online or off you should link to your web site to give people a place to go if they want to learn more about your company or the deal you are offering.

A press release is an incredibly useful tool and it has been around for some time, helping businesses get the word out about your story.

If you are not a good writer it is advised that you get someone to write the press release for you. Make sure the writer follows the advice above and creates a press release that will be effective, not just trash.

A press release can be a golden piece of paper if used correctly; good luck.
