Businesses Should Take a Good Look At Multi Level Marketing
Multi level marketing, also known in some industries as network marketing, is a somewhat controversial marketing practice. Multi level marketing combines two different specific types of marketing, direct marketing and franchising.
Direct marketing is a target marketing practice where a business markets directly to one consumer either through email or through regular mail and then mass markets to many consumers. Franchising is the expansion of a business through multiple businesses.
Multi level marketing operates when a business has employees that are not on the payroll (typically only paid by commissions) to act as their salespeople. These salespeople sell products by going door- to- door, sending emails, and talking to people on the street.
This form of multi level marketing, practiced by many smaller businesses without a lot of resources, comes with its pros and cons. Here are some of them:
Pros of multi level marketing
- Multi level marketing allows a business to appear bigger then it really is. Since a small business is only going to have so much to spend on marketing (usually close to nothing), it makes sense that they would employ salespeople to do the selling for them, making them appear like an even bigger business.
- Multi level marketing comes with virtually no risk. The greatest aspect of multi level marketing is that it comes at virtually no risk. All a business needs to do is pay a commission off of a SALE that they probably would not have gotten without using multi level marketing in the first place.
Cons of multi level marketing
- Multi level marketing may be a turn off to some people. Not everyone will react in a great way to multi level marketing because it can rub off like a car salesman who is just trying to make a pitch. This is where having solid, trustworthy salespeople working for you comes in handy.
- Multi level marketing can backfire if a company is unfairly represented. A business may have the highest of integrity but if one of their multi level marketers doesn't, it could rub off in a bad way for the business.
- Multi level marketing can be difficult to distinguish from pyramid schemes. Often multi level marketing takes on similar look as a pyramid scheme. These schemes employ similar tactics but they are scams. A business has to be careful not to come off like this.
Multi level marketing techniques are some of the most effective for a business that is short on marketing resources. Multi level marketing comes with some heavy benefits, if it is done correctly, but it is not necessarily the best option for every business.
Multi level marketing must be done in a way that seems legitimate. If it at all rubs off as a scam, even if it isn't, a lot of potential customers will be turned off.
Keeping a good balance on the multi level marketing techniques that you and your salespeople are employing is the first step to success in this form of marketing.
