Getting More Sales Through Stories

Using Stories to Grab the Readers Attention

Everybody loves a good story. Stories are creative and they make us think, they let our imaginations run wild and they…produce more sales? That's right; many businesses have started concentrating on telling more stories within their advertising as a way to get more sales. And guess what- it is working!

Every business owner in every industry should seriously consider using stories in their sales pitches as a way to convince people to buy their products or services. Not only are they effective in getting more sales, they are often better enjoyed by consumers.

Why are stories so effective in creating more sales?

There are several reasons that stories make more sales in the world of consumers. Here are the top three reasons stories lead to more sales:

1. Stories actually get read: Many people, when they see an advertisement, just automatically shut down and/ or skip it completely. Advertisements are so plentiful in our society that a lot of times they lose their pull; which is where stories come into play.

Stories within advertisements are very accepted to get more sales because they are widely read by most consumers. Since it is an innovative technique that actually holds their interest, consumers like reading them.

2. Stories don't sound like a sales pitch. Generally, people don't like getting a sales pitch. This does not matter whether it is coming from a magazine ad or a door to door salesman. A story however doesn't sound like a sale pitch but instead sound like a story.

3. Stories are down to earth. While advertisements are often seen as fake and made up (i.e. too good to be true), stories are often seen as truth. People believe stories because they relate to real life.

How can you add a story to your advertisement or sales pitch without sounding corny? Many business owners struggle with adding stories without sounding fake. Here is how to add stories to your ads in order to get more sales:

  • Start your advertisement with a story and then move into your sales pitch. You don't need to make the entire advertisement a story, just the beginning.
  • Move into a way to make it relevant to the reader. After providing a story, make sure you tie it in to the reader. You can do this by relating them to the story to make them feel like they could really benefit from the product too.
  • Finish up with your sales pitch and/ or product information. You should end talking about your product and maybe even a special promotional deal.

Everyone loves a good story. It is why we so often flock to the movies every week end and why books are still being bought at record highs- whether online or off.

Small businesses with real products and services are starting to see the real benefit of stories within their advertising and as a result, they are getting more people to read about their products and company as a whole.

More readers mean more sales. More sales equals more revenue. Stories are the best way to get more sales within your marketing.
