Affiliate Marketing Isn't Always a Great Thing

Looking Out For Some Affiliate Marketing Troubles

Affiliate marketing is a tool that many business owners and small business entrepreneurs make sure they use. Affiliate marketing is often cited as a great way to draw in extra clients and make money off of those that don't even buy from their company. In short, affiliate marketing offers multiple positive solutions in business.

However, as with many things in the world of marketing, affiliate marketing comes as a double edged sword. Affiliate marketing comes with a few features that are not so great in the short and long term that could affect the way a business operates.

Here are the top five reasons why affiliate marketing can be a hindrance:

1. You are competing with people selling the same thing. The one cardinal rule with affiliate marketing is never being an affiliate with a competitor. The best way to go about affiliate marketing is to work with a company that either works hand in hand with your product/ service or that is completely different.

It is a sure- fire problem to have an affiliate marketing competitor because you will be toting another business, which is nearly the same as your own, on your own web site. It is almost like giving potential customers the option between choosing you and choosing them. You don't want to do this.

2. You have limited control over the product, the sales process and the pricing. You can't control the product in nearly any affiliate marketing program, which is good because you don't need to have the responsibility behind it but is bad because it could be an extremely high priced, non- selling item.

Since you have no control over the product in affiliate marketing you could run into problems in terms of how well the affiliate marketing program works for you. If it does not turn over then it will not be profitable for you to be in the affiliate marketing program at all.

3. The affiliate program could pull the plug at any time and if you were successful you would be at a loss for a replacement and could potentially lose revenue. If an affiliate marketing program decides to stop its program, for whatever reason, you may be left in the cold with no replacement and of course, no income from the affiliate.

4. You could be sending traffic to a site with no conversion and therefore losing your own site visitors to a site that yields no results. If you consistently send your own site visitors to a web site that does not convert into money for you, you are just wasting your time and probably losing clients in the meantime.

5. The business that you are affiliated with may have bad customer service or just simply, a bad product. If your affiliate marketing partner has bad customer service or a bad product, this will shine on you as well, hurting your own image.

Affiliate marketing is a great tool that many businesses use frequently but of course it can come with its downfalls. Affiliate marketing pitfalls are listed above, and you should be cautious of them before starting any affiliate marketing program.

Affiliate marketing can come with great profitable advantages but just be sure to check each program you consider thoroughly before jumping in head first.
