Consulting businesses are a good way to be your own boss and earn income.

The consulting business has boomed in recent years.  In 1997, US businesses spent $12 billion on consulting services, and the numbers increase every year as more and more businesses need outside help for technological, accounting, business, writing, computer, and other specialties. Opening your own consulting business can be a good entrepreneurial move and a good step in earning your own income.

  • Vehicle if you have to travel to job sites.
  • Cell phone.
  • Business email address.

Your licensing requirements will vary depending on your county or state and on your area of expertise.  For example, if you plan on being a computer networking consultant, you need to pass the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification.  Even if you are not required to be certified, it will help if you are registered with the appropriate professional associations.
