How Giving Feedback to Employees Enhances Productivity
The Importance of Employee Feedback
When you give an employee your feedback on their performance, you are offering guidance.
You are making employees aware of your expectations, and what they
need to do to meet them. Don't make your employees guess what they're
doing right and what they're doing wrong; make it clear to them by
offering your feedback.
First:
Give
credit where credit is due. If you have employees who are truly
reliable and perform well, give them a pat on the back! You will be
surprised at how much it means to them that you recognize their hard
work.
Second:
Giving your feedback to employees is not just about telling them whether or not they are doing well.
While
giving feedback, explain why you think the employee is
under-delivering. Give tips or even training on how they can improve
their performance. This way, you make your staff feel that you are
investing in them.
Hearing
about their under-performance directly from you is better than hearing
it from other employees. You will be able to explain things better
(coming from the perspective of the business owner). As such, the
employee is less likely to feel resentment.
Of course,
employee feedback is not just "small talk." Make it clear that you
expect the employee to improve after you have provided feedback, and
that will monitor his or her progress.
Third: Employee
feedback sessions are excellent ways to make your staff feel included.
By giving time to help them improve at their tasks, you make them feel
like an important part of your business.
Employee feedback is
a very important aspect of running a business. It is a way to enable
your staff to improve their performance. Make it a point to provide
feedback to your employees on a regular basis.
Action Steps
- Make a list of all your employees and their titles or positions, and then evaluate them according to their job descriptions.
- Make sure you take notes. When you call employees to give your feedback, it is better if it is supported with facts.
- Set a specific time or schedule for feedback sessions. These things should not be rushed.
Important Points
- Employee feedback is not just a time to call on those who
under-deliver. Employees who do well should also be given the proper
feedback.
- Inform under-performing employees that you expect them to improve after the feedback session.
- Listen and take notes of any concerns employees may voice about the company.
