business consultant - How To Choose the Right One For You

A business consultant or advisor is an additional person many businesses feel that they can do without. An advisor comes in and figures out ways to make it more efficient and more productive. They do this with a variety of organizational tools and productivity methods.

Advisors help businesses everyday but of course, some advisors are better then others and their pay rates are not a very effective way to measure their worth. Here is how you can find the right advisor for you:

1. Find a list of advisor and ask them what their credentials are. Don't beat around the bush when you talk to an advisor, ask them straight forward what they have done in the past and why they are qualified.

2. To find a good advisor you will want someone experienced in your particular industry. If you are in computer engineering, make sure you find a business consultant who has worked in computer engineering in the past. Again, don't be bashful about asking the advisor if they have the experience.

3. Ask around for references on each advisor you talk to. If they are not willing to give you references chances are there is a reason. Most advisors will be more then happy to give out references.

4. Find out if the advsior is actually a salesperson. Many business consultants nowadays double as salespeople for certain companies, making a commission if they can sell you their products. Look out for this.

5.Talk to the advisor and give them an interview face to face before hiring them. Never hire an advisor without meeting them because you can always learn more about a person when you talk to them one on one.

6. Where was the advisor accredited at? If the consultant does not have any accreditation you should have some red flags go up. A good advsior will either have a great list of references or a great education in the field…or even better, both!

7. Does the advisor seem organized? In your conversations with your potential advisor do you notice a pattern of organization? If no, don't hire them. If they do not even seem organized in their own life you cannot expect them to come into your business and re-organize it for efficiency.

While these seven steps will not lead you automatically to the right advisor for your needs, it will at least point you in the right direction. Hiring an advisor to come in and evaluate your business and your employees is a good thing to do periodically.

Every year or two have a advisor come to your office and give you advice on what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong.
