How To Choose The Right Web Host For Your Site
(Part 8)
How To Choose The Right Amount Of Speed And Data Transfer For Your Website From A Web Hosting Provider, Depending On Your Purpose And The Traffic On Your Website.
Do you really need that kind of speed? Just as with any business decision, your web host is something that will be tool for your business' success.
However, in the rush to be the best among your competition, it can be easy to think that you need more services and options than you actually will - more than you will actually use. To help you figure out how much speed you need, here are some tips.
Consider your website - If you're providing customers with basic information, but processing orders in another fashion, you really don't need the extra speed. Most of your customers are going to spending time reading your pages and aren't going to be flipping from module to module doing complex activities.
Consider your traffic - While it is a good idea to always overestimate your traffic; at first, you may be able to have a lower speed and still be able to handle your customers in a reliable manner. The more speed you have, the more you will be paying on upkeep for a site.
Consider your content - If you have complicated graphics and modules, you will want to have a faster web host in order to load the pages more quickly. This will allow users to easily browse your complicated pages instead of having to wait. However, content that revolves around text is easier to load and store on a web host, so you won't need as much speed to support it.
Consider the cost - When you're looking at web hosts, the faster the service, the higher the cost. However, when your customers are expecting a fast loading page, you might be losing money by not providing them what they expect.
What businesses really need Not everyone needs to have the fastest website. When it comes to smaller businesses, you just don't need to have the quickest and most expensive web host around. What you do need is to be available to your customers and that's more of a reliability issue than one of speed.
However, larger sites and those with heavy traffic should consider the speed of their web host as this will be something that customers are expecting you to deliver. Speed of customer service and support should be the main concern of every business - not just how quickly the pages can load. However, you do want to have a site that's ready for a customer that wants to learn more.
Summary
- Speed is an important factor in your web hosting choice, but not always necessary.
