What Are the Terms and Conditions of Your Web Host Contract?

How To Choose The Right Web Host For Your Site (Part 10)

PART 10 - Go To Part 1

The Contracts And Agreements You Need To Look At When Choosing A Web Host Looking over the contracts You'd never sign on the dotted line for a house without looking over what the terms of the contract were. In the case of a web host, you need to be careful about what you are signing you and your business up for so that you're not stuck with additional charges or signed up for services that you don't need or didn't want in the first place.

That fine print When you're looking over the terms and conditions of a web hosting agreement, you will want to take the time to read the fine print.

Here are some things that you should be looking for:

  • How long is the contract for?
  • How will you be charged? Quarterly? Monthly? Yearly?
  • What payment methods do they accept?
  • Is there a trial period in which you can try the services without charge or receive a refund if dissatisfied?
  • How difficult will it be to upgrade services?
  • Is there a charge to change things within the account?
  • Will you be able to transfer your domain name from the web host without a penalty?
  • What bandwidth and disk space are you allotted?

What happens to some Those that don't read the fine print can see extra service charges on their account, but not know why they've been charged.

However, when directed to look back at their contract, they would see that these charges were legitimate. For example, any web hosting provider that says that they offer unlimited bandwidth or disk space is probably not telling the truth - and once you go over your limits, you will be charged for it.

Instead, take the time to learn about your contract so that you know what to expect for your monthly bill as well as services.

Summary

  • Ask a lot of questions before signing up for web hosting.
  • Be sure that you understand the fine print.
  • Talk about the charges, penalties and extra fees that might be charged?
  • Ask about fees for switching services or upgrading.
  • Realize that when you're told something is free, it might not be.
