I was listening to an interview with Bob Doyle and Jack Zufelt of The DNA of Success and here is the gold I got from this interview.
Here's the gold I got from this interview: Jack's view is that in order to achieve a goal, you have to know the exact reasons you want the goal.
This makes perfect sense if think you know the reason for achieving the goal. But if you don't know the reason, then you really don't have a true goal and even if you do achieve the goal, it will turn out to be a goal that isn't your true desire and therefore a lost cause.
Here's what I remember from the example Jack gave.
He was asking a woman in the audience what her goal was, and she gave a dollar figure. He told her, “That isn't your true goal.”
She didn't really understand, so he then asked her, “What will more money give you that you don't already have now?”
She said, “I can quit my job.” He knew that wasn't the core goal and asked again, “What will that give you that you don't already have?”
She said, “I can become debt free.” He asked again, “What will that give you that you don't already have?”
Now she had to think for a bit, and a tear came into her eye. She said, “A better relationship with my husband.”
This was the true desire: she thought she needed more money to pay off her debts, to release stress, and to have a better relationship with her husband. But now that she knows the true desire, she can have the goal of a better relationship without the need for the money.
A simple technique, yet very powerful. Simply ask yourself the question: what will this give me that I don't already have? And keep asking it until you get shifted into the way you feel.
Thanks to Jack Zufelt, this technique is simple, and you can do it alone! Try it now.
