Business Insurance Quotes: Where to Focus

Understanding business insurance quotes

Key areas of business insurance quotes

How do you decide on what insurance policies to take for your business?

Usually the decision is based on your own research and your discussions with insurance brokers or agents. But, and this is a very big and important but, how do you know what you are actually getting in the way of insurance coverage and whether or not is it what you want and need?

The only way you can do this is to examine the business insurance quotes in detail.

The most important thing to keep in mind about insurance, as in most other legal and financial transactions, is that nothing is implied or taken for granted.

If something is not specifically mentioned in the quotation, do not take it for granted that because it was discussed with the insurance agent earlier, it will be covered. It does not work that way.

Understanding Business Insurance Quotes
There are two main areas of business insurance quotes – the cost to you and the amount of coverage you get.

Formal quotes, whether they are hard copies given to you by the insurance agent or online business insurance quotes, will have a lot of standard clauses and rules that govern all the polices and quotations.

While not reading these in detail is not recommended, they are often couched in highly complex legal terms and difficult to understand.

In the case of reputed and well known insurance companies, you do not have much to worry about here, as these insurance companies will not risk putting any unfair or restrictive clauses in writing.

Still, it is a good idea to at least read through the standard terms and conditions at least once to see if there is anything that does catch your eye and for which you need clarifications.

With regards to the business insurance cost, this refers to the premium that you pay. The exact amount, the time of the month and the nature of payment – by check, electronic transfer and so on, must be what you have been offered and accepted.

If anything is not specifically as per what you agreed to, ask for the wording to be modified to bring it in line with your expectations.

Also check that all the calculations have been done correctly. For example, in the case of health insurance, the premium will vary depending on the nature of the work the various employees are doing.

Make sure that this is done properly and that all your employees and not needlessly placed in the high premium range.

The question of the coverage is a critical one. Business insurance quotes will normally mention the exception to the proposed coverage.

Go through these in detail and ensure that there is nothing there that you have not agreed to. For example, if there is an exception in regard to damage cause by terrorist activity, have you agreed to that?

Is the financial limit on the coverage available, what you have accepted?

In the case of property damage, there will be an amount towards repair that you will be required to pay, and all amounts above that will be covered by the policy.

Has this been discussed and has the amount been agreed to by you?

In other words, even if you cannot go through all the general conditions in details, do pay attention to everything that is specific to you and the type of insurance policy you are taking.

Having the wrong type of insurance or inadequate coverage and not knowing it can be worse than having no insurance at all, since you expect to be protected and then find it is not as much as you had planned for and are then caught unprepared to face the challenge.

While most insurance agents are honest people, there are enough unscrupulous ones to do a lot of damage. They will mislead you on what you will have to pay and what kind of coverage you will be getting just to close the deal and get their commission.

They will tell you “not to worry” or that “that will be taken care of.” These words mean nothing and unless everything is clarified in the business insurance quote, do not take the policy.

Bottom line is, until everything is put down in black and white as you expect it to be only then should you proceed with an insurance policy.
