Chapter 2 - Finding the Business and Products That Suit You AND Your Customer
Products To Sell - The Key Lies In What The Consumer Wants

Sell Products That Customers Want Or You Will Fail

What They Want Is What They Get:
Sell Products That Consumers Want

People never change. They will always have the same basic desires.

Products to sell are only products and services people want. If you're trying to market something people don't want you will fail.

By knowing what people want, you can profit from their desires. And since their desires are predictable, your ability to make money from your ideas just got a lot more bankable, as well.

Finding a product to Sell

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs basically states that only once one level of need has been satisfied do we work to fulfill the next level. The levels of needs from most important to least important are the following:

  1. Physiological: hunger, thirst, bodily comforts, etc
  2. Safety/security: out of danger
  3. Belongingness and Love: affiliate with others, be accepted
  • Esteem: to achieve, be competent, gain approval and recognition
  1. Cognitive: to know, to understand, and explore
  • Aesthetic: symmetry, order, and beauty
  1. Self-actualization: to find self-fulfillment and realize one's potential
  2. Self-transcendence: to connect to something beyond the ego or to help others find self-fulfillment and realize their potential.

The top three general categories are satisfied by money, sex, and food.

There will always be a market for businesses that teach people how to make money, dating agencies, and new ways to cook or what to cook and new recipes.

That will never change. So if you have an idea that fits in one of those categories, and if it's a new spin on existing ideas, you are very likely to be successful.
