Now that sellers and buyers are transacting more and more online, the need to increase online traffic is as fierce as ever. In the end, those who really give value for their consumers' money will be the winner but we do so need to encourage consumers to click that BUY button every now and then right? And what better way to increase online traffic and convert visitors to consumers that with FREE gifts .

Who does not want anything that is offered for FREE? In fact, many consumers take free gifts even if they know that they will not use it and end up dumping it into the trash bin. And so we say WHY give your consumers something they don't like or will not use?

It is much better for your business if you offer something that is free AND valuable to buyers. Here are some do's and dont's when offering free giveaways to consumers.

Free giveaways should be useful!  Remember - if they don't throw it, they get to see it often and as such are reminded of you and your business all the time!

Find a way to put your contact info on free giveaways.  What is a free gift for if consumers are not reminded of who you are? As such, if you are giving away coffee mugs, ensure that your business logo, name and website are clearly printed on the mug!

Free giveaways should be related to your business and target audience.  Why are you giving away free pencils if you want consumers to get online and buy your software? There is just no relation is there?

Free is great but make sure it is related to WHAT you are selling and to WHOM you are selling it to. For instance, your free caps may be great for your clothes accessories business but if your target audience is males, why is your free cap pink?

Don't be limited by 'physical' free gifts .  When we say free giveaways, people often think of tangible gifts. Don't forget that people spend a lot of time online so free downloadable software, or free ebooks are great giveaways too!

FREE is relative.  Ok, you are really not giving gifts for free. You are doing this to promote your business by giving them free products that bear your business name. You can further maximize free giveaways by asking people to SIGN UP for a newsletter, e-course, or whatever it is that you can send them online time and again. This way, you are constantly in touch with your consumers.

To increase online traffic, you need to be creative and think out of the box. However, you do not have to re-invent the wheel either! Tap into the age-old marketing habit of offering free giveaways on your site and if you do it right... your online traffic will increase! Good luck!
