How to Effectively Advertise With Billboards

Graphic

Advertising outdoors has proven effective and beneficial to most companies these days.

The outdoor approach to marketing is a great idea, and is easy to accommodate. Simply choose the location of your billboard, and you have a months worth of paid advertising that appears to mass amounts of consumers at a time.

The more difficult part of outdoor advertising is choosing the spot for the billboard to go. You may buy however many billboards you wish, however the more you buy the more you spend.

You may also choose from the company's billboards the best location for your own. This allows for some freedom in your marketing approach. Most companies prefer to advertise outdoors, especially those that advertise for products used mainly outdoors. For example, automobiles, tractors, and hotel chains use outdoor advertising quite often.

Billboards

Billboards are great ways to let your product be seen by the masses on a daily basis. Billboards are large blank spaces hung high over the highways, over shopping centers, or other buildings and can allow for many people to look at the same ad at the same time.

The consumer does nothing, they do not have to buy this media, and they do not have to subscribe to receive it, nothing. They simply go about their day, and they are filled with information about all kinds of products, from many different companies.

Location, location, location

The only stipulation on billboards is trying to get the hotspot. You try to get the best location for your ad possible to affect the most consumers at a time. Doing this however, will cost more money than just any location.

The outdoor advertising company's own billboards and know which ones are in the prime location. These billboards can cost much more than the rest, but for the exposure they generate are very much worth the extra cost. Everything from where billboard is placed, to which direction it faces will affect the cost to advertise there. This is a very straightforward way to advertise, and many companies are happy with the results they achieve.

Keep It Creative

Outdoor advertising does tend to have a high burnout rate. This is because people tend to take the same routes to work, to the grocery store, out to eat, etc. They see the same billboards over and over.

The more creative you can be the better chance you have decreasing the burnout rate. Think about Chick-Fil-A. Who can't laugh at a couple of cows painting Eat More Chiken on a billboard in a pasture?

Action Steps For Outdoor Advertising

1. Choose an outdoor advertising company to advertise with, you may find them in the phone book, on the internet, or from referrals from other companies in your area

2. Choose from the locations available, let your agent know if you are interested in the more high traffic areas, or if any area will work for you

3. You may also choose a lighted or non lighted billboard; the lighted billboards cost more, because of extra ad time

Important Points About Outdoor Advertising

  • Choose your location with exposure in mind, how many people do you want to see the ad
  • Do you sell scrubs or medical equipment; you may want to advertise around hospitals.
  • Market your product in the best location possible by doing research before you go to the outdoor advertising company in your area
