In the beauty supply business, you should also have the latest updates in fashion. You should be able to forecast what style will be a ‘hit' until when (or for what season). Being updated on the latest ‘beauty gadgets' is also needed.
You should also choose your own suppliers well. Be sure that the equipment and supplies that they provide are of good quality and that they are provided on time so that you're not delayed. In the beauty supply business, quality and timely delivery is of the essence.
Skills Needed:
Marketing Skills. Most of the time you will be doing transactions with different clients and suppliers. You should have good marketing skills to promote your beauty supply business not just to the clients but also to the suppliers. They should feel that you are a trustworthy company to tie up with.
Inventory Skills. Beauty products have end dates. As such, you should look at the demand for different beauty products. From there, you should be able to assess which product to stock up on and for how long. As for beauty equipment, the ability to stock ‘just enough' is required so you don't end up with merchandise you can't get rid of. Tying up with an equipment supplier/manufacturer with good terms (i.e., pay only for items you sell) is a good solution.
Experience Needed:
Selling and marketing experience is a plus; having worked in the beauty business regardless of what sector is a plus too.
Startup Requirements:
The beauty supply business can require quite a sum of money as you will be dealing mostly in wholesale (in bulk). A warehouse or storage facility may be required if you focus on supplying beauty equipment.
