Becoming A Nanny Is a Big Deal, So Ask These Questions to Make Sure You and The Family are a Good Fit

If you want to be a nanny, you must love kids, have a pleasing personality, and be totally trustworthy.

A nanny also has to be responsible, knows how to cook basic dishes that kids love, is firm and lax at the right times and, most of all, have a fountain of patience!

You do not have to have any kind of formal training to be a nanny. But it would be best if you take up a basic home economics course in child care. Knowledge in first aid is also advised.

Nanny Jobs It's All About Trust

Trust is a two-way street when it comes to nanny jobs. Parents must find you trustworthy enough to care for their kids and be in their homes while they are away. At the same time, you should also feel comfortable enough to care for other people's kids in their homes.

When you meet up with clients and their kids for a potential nanny job, prepare a questionnaire. Ask clients to describe their lifestyle. Are they upper class? Middle class? Something in between? What are their jobs are and what time do they leave and come back? How many hours are needed for the job? Ask upfront about compensation before you take the nanny job.

It is also advisable to ask future clients to describe their kids. In what personality criteria do their children fit in? Are they introverts or extroverts? What hobbies do the children engage in? What are their favorite foods and do they have food allergies? These questions will hopefully give you an indication as to what you can expect from the nanny job. If you feel uncomfortable with the family, don't take it to avoid any potential trouble and conflict on BOTH sides.

Trust issues are important in a nanny-client relationship, so don't be afraid to ask for a formal work agreement signed by both parties involved. On your part, as a professional you must be ready to submit records that will verify your identity and reliability even without the client asking you to do so. This is the perfect way to gain the trust of your client.
