Dogs are a man's best friends. And people who love their dogs are passionate about finding the best care for them when they have to leave them.
The kennel business, therefore, is a lucrative home business venture, and just may be the job for you.
How to Get into the Kennel Business
Before starting a kennel business, be sure that you love dogs. Tolerance for pooches will not suffice when running this business. You should genuinely love and adore dogs, as you will be working with them for a long time.
In starting a kennel business, you need to have a good location. When speaking of a good location, it means that it is approved by your locality. One dog, with its growl, barks, and smell has the ability to annoy neighbors; just imagine having 5 to 10 dogs.
Once you have the location, you can already start building your kennel. It would be wise to consult a vet for the design. A kennel should provide a comfortable and healthy environment for its boarders.
You should also have a regular vet you can call on when you need advice or when some of your boarders experience illness in the duration of their stay in your kennel.
Skills Needed:
Let the world or at least your locality know that you and your kennel business exist. With good marketing skills, you can develop strategies to give positive exposure to your business.
You will be working with dogs all the time so you should know how to handle dogs of different breeds, whether it is a Chihuahua or an American Staffordshire Terrier. You will have the responsibility of feeding, bathing, walking and grooming the dogs, while they stay in your kennel.
Experience Needed:
It would be an advantage if you have handled different types of dogs. If you still haven't, you can always practice. Ask your friends or relatives who have dogs to let you take care of their pets. This will give you invaluable experience when you have your own kennel business. This will also lead to future referrals from satisfied clients.
Startup Requirements:
In starting your kennel business, you will be shelling out money for the business permits and for other legal requirements. But the bulk of your capital money will go to the building of your kennel. Once you have your permits and the kennel itself, you can now start advertising your business on the newspaper or get the word out through referrals.
