Pressure Washing, Industrial Vacuuming, and More - How to Establish An Industrial Cleaning Business

In order to maintain a safe and clean working environment, assembly plants, factories and mills need to regularly hire industrial cleaning companies to clean their facilities.

Industrial cleaning often requires pressure washing, water blasting and industrial vacuuming.

If you enjoy working with equipment and can see yourself spending your day water blasting through buildings, then perhaps an industrial cleaning business is the small business venture for you.

How to Get into the Industrial Cleaning business
Your first step in starting an industrial cleaning business is to acquire industrial cleaning equipment, including water blasters, pressure washers and industrial vacuums.

Ensure that you have a proper and safe storage area in your home for your cleaning equipment, as well as the needed cleaning chemicals and tools.

Once you have the required equipment to do the job, you can begin searching for clients. Set up an office area in your home that will enable you to organize your business. Keep accurate records of client information, keep organized inventory lists, plan your marketing scheme, decide on your pricing, and handle revenue.

Make sure you have a reliable vehicle that can transport you and your industrial cleaning equipment from one job site to the other. If you plan to offer removal of waste (non-hazardous of course) your vehicle will need to have a special container attached that is equipped to transport waste safely.

Skills Needed:
You will need to be skilled in operating industrial cleaning equipment, and have the know-how to efficiently and safely clean areas in factories, mills and assembly plants. You will need to be trained and certified as an industrial cleaning technician in order to start your own industrial cleaning business. A ‘hands on' course will certify you and teach you the skills needed to run your business.

You will also want to be skilled in business management and have good time management skills in order to run an efficient and reliable industrial cleaning business.

Marketing skills will be important, as part of your job will be to find regular customers who require your cleaning services. An effective advertising campaign will get you off on the right foot.

Experience Needed:
You will need to have work experience in cleaning a variety of industrial buildings, and experience in operating all of the required industrial cleaning equipment prior to starting your own industrial cleaning business. Consider working for an industrial cleaning company, or apprenticing with an industrial cleaning technician before you venture out on your own.

Business management experience will be very useful in giving you the ability to run an organized and efficient industrial cleaning business. Consider taking a business course, or investing in business management software to assist you in setting up a strong business plan.

Startup Requirements:
Your initial investment in your industrial cleaning business will be in purchasing high quality industrial cleaning equipment, tools, cleaning chemicals, and a suitable vehicle.

You will also want to spend some money on advertising and a marketing campaign including pamphlets that can be passed around to various mills, assembly plants and chemical plants.
