What You Need to Start a Children's Day Care

The majority of families today have two working parents, and finding quality affordable daycare is top priority.

Instead of putting y child into a large daycare center, many families prefer in home daycare centers, which are often more reasonably priced, and have a more comfortable, homey atmosphere for their child.

If you love working with children, and are up to the challenge of taking care of children full time, you can enter this booming business and start your own in home daycare business.

How to Get into the In Home Daycare Business

Your first step in starting an in home daycare business is to have your home licensed for daycare with your local child services department. Someone will most likely come out to inspect your home, to make sure you have ample space to care for children. Your house will be assessed to make sure there are no fire hazards. The child services department will require you to complete a criminal background check.

You will also be given guidelines by the local child services department on what equipment you will need, in regards to changing children, as well as providing a space for children to rest. The child services department will give suggestions on how best to set up your play area, and what toys are most appropriate and safe.

Once you have met all of the requirements from child services, you will receive an official in home daycare certificate, and can be open for business.

You will want to draw up a daycare contract between you and your parents. Outline your fees, your hours of operation, and your daycare policies including sick days, discipline, and late pick-up.

Advertise your in home daycare in local newspapers and with fliers. Once the word gets out that you are providing loving care for children in your home, families will flock to your door!

Skills Needed:
You absolutely must love working with children in order to run a successful in home daycare. You will need to have patience, understanding, creativity and stamina to be able to care for children full time in your home.

Early childhood education is very important when running an in home daycare business. There are many courses and workshops available that teach everything from how to make terrific crafts with children, to positive discipline techniques, to how to manage your daycare finances. You can also find many early childhood education resources online.

First aid and CPR skills are a must when you care for children full time. Check with your local red cross. Most courses can be completed in a couple of hours on a Saturday morning.

Experience Needed:
Work experience in a daycare center would be an asset. If you have never worked in a daycare center before, consider volunteering in a center prior to starting your own in home daycare business.

Any experience caring for children will be helpful to your in home daycare business. Offer daycare to your family and friends, and make sure that you and your house are up for the challenge of full time daycare.

Startup Requirements:
Once you have the proper in home daycare license and your home has been baby proofed and set up for daycare, you will be ready to open your home to children and start a profitable business with your in home daycare business.
