Is a Dog Daycare Business for you?

The dog daycare business nowadays is a booming industry. As most dog owners become busier than ever, the need for someone to take care of their beloved four-legged pets increases.

Dogs need exercise as being active is their nature and they are not comfortable being left alone at home or being confined in closed spaces.

How to Get into the Dog Daycare Business

Look around your locale, a quick survey will tell you if the idea of having a dog daycare business offers plenty of opportunities. However, don't limit yourself to just your neighborhood as dog owners will be happy to drop off their pets at your dog daycare business if they are convinced their pooches will be in good hands.

Skills Needed:
Starting up a dog daycare business doesn't really require a degree in college or a doctorate in the university. However, a background in veterinary medicine is an advantage.

Dog daycare businesses also often require dog grooming services so skills in this department will come in handy. First aid for dogs is also required as you need to know what to do in case of an emergency.

Experience Needed:
Experience in working with dogs is a plus. Although experience in a dog daycare business is obviously better, any related experience (e.g., a dog walker, working as a vet assistant, etc.) will do. If you are completely inexperienced, getting a job in an established dog daycare business will help you learn the ropes.

Startup Requirements:
You need ample space not only for the dogs' rest areas but also for their ‘activity zones'. You may need to reconfigure your backyard or that part of the house you want to use as the location for your dog daycare business so factor in renovation costs. Equipment such as dog toys, dog food, and advertising materials should also be considered.
