The biggest improvement on the latest version of Opera is tabbed browsing. This allows the user to open a number of web pages with only one instance of Opera. Another great new feature is Speed Dial, which appears when you click on the New Tab button.
Speed Dial lets you pre-program up to nine (9) web pages that can be accessible with a single click after clicking on New Tab. There are also the page-zoom, fit to width and full screen features, which depending on the user's browsing preferences can be very handy indeed.
In addition, Opera 9.21 lets you do the following.
- Search with ease with its built-in dropdown search box, allowing you to select from a number of search engines and commercial sites.
- Customize the way you browse different sites by editing site preferences.
- Enhance your web experience with multimedia, RSS feeds, and games through the Widgets menu.
- Save your last opened tabs as a session so you can open them all at one go when you restart Opera.
- If you're running Windows 2000 or XP, you can also make use of the voice feature, and control the Opera interface by speaking, and to have text on web pages be read aloud.
Other Opera 9.21 Winning Features
- Browse securely without worrying about your personal information being stolen. Opera features advanced protection against fraudulent web sites.
- You don't need to download a separate application for downloading torrents as Opera has BitTorrent built in for click-and-download ease.
- You don't need external programs to block advertisements on web pages. Right-click on Windows (on the Mac it's CTRL-click) on any web page and select "Block content".
The browser's layout is clean and uncluttered, apparently made so that only the most necessary features are visible by default, and the user can add and hide features as they want.
Opera may not be as widely used as Mozilla's Firefox, but it does live up to its promise of speed and simple usability.
