6 Tips to Help You Keep Your New Year's Business Resolution

A new year is just around the corner. It's the best time to start fresh, set goals, budget, and make resolutions. When you've finished reading this article, you'll find a link to a FREE worksheet that will help you create your "New Year's Business Resolution."

Your resolution should be something you really want. For your resolution to be effective it must target a benefit that is so compelling you're driven to action.

Step 1: Define Your New Year's Business Resolution.

Your resolution should be compelling, specific, and something you absolutely want done. It could be something you've been neglecting or putting off. A good resolution is an activity that, when completed or performed on a regular basis, will enhance your business drastically.

Step 2: Recognize Why You Haven't Done Your Resolution Before.

(If your resolution is something you were previously unaware of, you may skip this step.)

List what obstacles have held you back in the past from attaining your resolution. Make a list of possible solutions that will get you through these roadblocks.

Step 3: Acknowledge What Will Happen If You Don't Act Upon Your Resolution.

Make a list of all the negative effects that will occur if you don't accomplish your goal. The more drastic the consequences the easier it is to take action to achieve your resolution.

Step 4: Understand The Benefits Of Achieving Your Resolution.

Take at least five minutes to relax and close your eyes. Travel into the future where your activity is a success. Note how you feel and how much more enriched your business is with your goal achieved, and think of the power you now have because you are successful.

After completing this exercise, make a list of benefits you will receive by acting on your resolution. Keep writing for a few minutes and when you are done, choose three of the most compelling benefits.

Step 5: Take Action!

Do something now! Write a short plan or outline defining the steps you wish to take. Start using it immediately and remember you can always make adjustments during the execution of the plan. Keep your plan where you can see it every day.

Step 6: Notice What's Happening.

If you find your resolution working, keep at it until it's complete. On the other hand, if you find yourself unmotivated, then the reasons for this resolution are not strong enough, or you simply don't want your resolution badly enough. To resolve the problem come up with better reasons or find a better resolution and go through the exercise again.

You now have a simple plan for a successful business resolution for the coming year. It's up to you to act upon and achieve your desires.

That's the way I see it.
