Lessons From the Life of Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson's death was a shock to many people around the world; the impact of this event dominated the news for many days.
His tragic death was a surprise. The impact of his life, in my opinion, increased after he died. I know Michael Jackson was a giant pop star and has been labeled "the King of Pop" but I never realized how much until he was gone.
A Music Icon:
He was a music icon. He leaves behind music that will be heard by generations to come!
He was the first pop star to perform at the Super Bowl halftime event, opening the way for other international music icons. His videos were revolutionary. His album Thriller is still the all-time bestselling album ever. And he had many other notable achievements.

Even though I'm a fan of his many hits, I have to say I admire him most because of the way he impacted so many people in the music industry and in the world. He used his talent and pushed it to the limit and when he performed he put on a truly amazing show unlike any star before or since!
The events of the past few days and the media coverage had me thinking of everyday people and how we affect others and how well we perform what we do. If you could do a tiny fraction of what Michael Jackson did in music to what you do in your line of work, how would that impact your life and the life of others?
How could you impact the people you do business with? What do you do that is special? What can you do right now that will impact others?
What Can You Do In Your Life to Impact Others?
If you're a writer, does your work impact others, do you bring value to your readers? Do you impact your readers in a positive way? If you run a local business, how does your work impact others?
It's not too late to improve the way you do things. And the change could be immediate simply by deciding to improve the way you do business. It's as simple as taking time to figure out how you can adjust to make your work impact your customers in a positive way.
Here's a small example:
Let's say you run a donut shop. You could simply smile while serving your customers, give away a free coffee on Wednesday morning from 8 till 9, give away a snack with every donut purchase. You could use better ingredients to make an excellent product, or simply make people feel at home.
Will this small step make you as big as Michael Jackson? No way! It will get you started on the path to becoming one of the best at what you do.
If you start to practice doing things better, you'll find that people appreciate it and then you'll look for more ways to improve what you do. And then the magic happens and you keep looking for ways to improve, then the habit becomes so strong you can't stop, then before you know it you will be one of the best in what you do!
After all, more good in the world can't hurt!
That's the way I see it.
