User Friendly Products Equals More Sales, Less Returns
Showing your customers how to use a product is an easy and cost-effective way to create an advantage over the competition, reduce the amount of returns you get, and build your reputation for user friendly products.
You can do this by simply demonstrating the way your product works in a short video.
Here Is An Experience I'll Share With You
I purchased a George Forman spin deep fryer in January of 2009. It's supposed to spin 55% of fat in the food you deep fry in it. Getting it out of the box was a task in itself and if it wasn't for the cardboard inside the fryer I wouldn't have known to unpack all of the parts. After finally unpacking the product and setting it up, I couldn't figure out how the spinner worked. I read the instruction manual but that was just as confusing.
Finally I Got Fed Up And Turned To The Internet
Thank God for YouTube and the person that posted a demonstration video for the fryer. The video was 40 seconds in length, and that was it. I now could use the product with little effort.
Companies go to a lot of expensive developing, testing manufacturing, and packaging to improve their products. Why not go one more step and create videos to help the consumer unpack, set up, and use the product? This would dramatically improve the ease of use for the customer, not to mention the ability to use features they wouldn't bother to read about in the manual.
This approach would also improve future sales because customers would know they have videos to help them use the product. This will furthermore affect the buying decision because you have eliminated a barrier.
Today's Technology Allows To Easily Create Product Demos
With today's technology you could easily add a demo DVD or, if you don't want to worry about the different global DVD formats, create an online video.
Considering all the cost involved in creating and marketing a product, creating a DVD will be a cost-effective step forward. If you wanted to take this another step further, have some of the developers demonstrate how the product works on video. When they do, they could find issues that can be improved for upcoming products.
If you have an excellent product and people have trouble using it, then it's no longer an excellent product!
Make It Easy
Make it easy to understand how to use your product and you'll improve sales, your company's reputation, and reduce unnecessary returns all at the same time.
