User Friendly Products Equals More Sales, Less Returns
Would you like an advantage over the competition? Do you prefer less returns? Would like to build a reputation for having easy to use products that fly off the shelf every time you create a new product?
This sound great and can be done by simply make your products user friendly and it has nothing to do with redesigning your product.
It has to do with showing your customer how to use your product. It's a simple idea and with today's technology creating a video is much easier and cost effective compared to earlier years.
Here is an experience I'll share with you
I purchased a George Forman spin deep fryer in Jan 2009. It's supposed to spin 55% of the fat of the food after you deep fry the food in it.
Well getting it out of the box was a task in itself. And If it wasn't for the cardboard inside the fryer I wouldn't have known to unpack all of it, because I wouldn't have known there were part that came out.
After figuring out how to unpack and set it up I couldn't figure out how the spinner worked. I read the instruction manual and kept focusing on who wrote this manual.
Finally I got fed up And turned to the internet.
Thank God for youtube and the person that put a demonstration video for the fryer, one video 40 seconds and that was it. I now could use the product with little effort.
Companies go to a lot of expense developing, testing manufacturing, packaging their products. Why not go one more step and create videos to help the consumer unpack, setup and use the product? This would dramatically improve the ease of use for the customer, not to mention the ability to use features they wouldn't bother to read about in the manual.
This approach would also make future sales improve because a past customer would know they have videos to help them use the product. And this will affect the buying decision, because you have eliminated a barrier.
Today's Technology Requires Keeping up With The Time
With today's technology you could easily packaged your product with a DVD or just have an online site so you don't have to worry about the different DVD formats for each country. Considering all the cost involved in creating a product and marketing.
If you wanted to take this one step further have some of the developers demonstrate how t use the product, because when they do they'll find issues that can be improved for upcoming products.
If you have an excellent product and people have trouble using it then it's no longer an excellent product!
Make it Easy
Make it easy to understand how to use your product and you'll improve sales, your company's reputation and reduce unnecessary returns.
That's the Way I See It!
