Achieve Your Goals With These Simple Steps

Almost Any Goal Can Be Achieved

Image of A sign Almost any goal can be achieved if you know how to set it up. The first and most important steps are simple and yet misused. People don't pay enough attention to them.

The first step is to be clear about what you want. If you are not clear about your goals, you won't be able to achieve those goals in the way you want.

You may think, that's silly, of course I know what I want.

Well, I agree that most people think they know what they want, but they are not crystal clear. Their goal isn't memorized, and they can't write it in a clear, simple sentence.

Vague Goals Lead to Vague Results:

Structure your goals correctly, and you'll find yourself able to take the correct actions, perform better, and achieve your goals quickly and accurately!

I'll outline a few steps to structure good, strong goals that you will achieve.

Step 1:

Take a few minutes to picture your goal and what it will be like when you achieve your goal.

Step 2:

Write down your goal.

Step 3:

Read your goal out loud. Does it make sense to you? If not, go back and start at Step 1.

Step 4:

Is your goal precise? Don't say, I want to earn more money. Here's a 10-cent-an-hour raise you have achieved your goal, only not in the way you intended. Say, I want to earn more than $65,000 a year.

Step 5:

Is your goal about you? Some people create goals that are about someone else doing something. A goal like that is out of your control. For example, you can't say, My goal is for my boss to give me a promotion to senior adviser. You can set a goal to become a senior adviser maybe at your current firm, maybe somewhere else. The goal is set on you getting the position, not on your boss giving it to you.

Step 6:

Do you believe you can achieve it? If you don't believe you can achieve it, then you're right! Choose a goal you believe you can accomplish!

Step 7:

Do you feel good when you read your goal out loud? If so, then you are on track. Your feelings are a guide that let you know if you are on track or not.

Step 8:

Keep the end result in mind every day, along with good feelings about your goal and the belief that you can achieve your goal!

Step 9:

Keep your goal written someplace where you can see it often.

Step 10:

Take action toward achieving your goal. Work on your goal every day, if possible. A goal without action is merely a dream.

Step 11 (optional):

I think this step is optional and goes back to Step 6. Many people who teach goal setting tell you to set a date for when the goal will be realized. I believe this involves Step 6, which is about feelings. If placing a deadline on your goal makes you feel good and keeps you moving, then do it. If a deadline induces pressure and anxiety, then don't include it.

Two Tips to Keep in Mind After You Set Your Goals

Image of A eye looking at a globe1. Sometimes you will need to have faith that you will achieve your goal, because the current situation isn't going well.

Just because it isn't going well at the moment doesn't mean you won't achieve your goal. You need to take a different path or try harder. Sometimes roadblocks are blessings in disguise.

2. If you feel bad about your goal and that includes feeling doubtful, depressed, or anxious then something is wrong. Go back and redefine your goal until it makes you feel great!

A goal should be something that makes you feel good and gives you the drive you need.

Succeeding at the right goal will make you feel great and empower you! Start on the right track, and define the best goal for you!

That's the way I see it.
